On February 1, 2024, at Long An International Port, Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People’s Committee, together with leaders of Long An Province departments and Dongtam Group’s management team, welcomed and worked with the delegation from Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia, led by Mr. Peng Posa, Governor of Svay Rieng Province.

Attending the event are Long An Provincial leaders led by Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, together with officials and leaders of Long An Provincial departments. The delegation of Svay Rieng Province was led by Mr. Peng Posa, Governor of Svay Rieng Province as Head of the delegation, and Vice Governors Mr. Toch Polyva, Mr. Hem Piseth, Mr. Sok Ros, Mr. Sokha Ram, and Mr. Sar Sodani. The delegation was welcomed to work at the Port by Dongtam Group led by Mr. Vo Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long An Port Joint Stock Company, and the leaders of Dongtam Group and Long An International Port.

In the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the traditional Vietnamese New Year and Lunar New Year 2024, Mr. Vo Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long An Port JSC, expressed his joy in welcoming the delegation from Svay Rieng Province on their working visit to the port. This is an important event, opening up a good relationship specifically between the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Long An, as well as Vietnam and Cambodia in general. As a result, many opportunities for business connection between the two countries to become increasingly closer and more sustainable are created.

Long An, being one of the two Vietnamese provinces sharing a land border with Svay Rieng Province, holds a special position in facilitating trade between Long An Province and Cambodia. However, according to the Agreement on Transit of Goods between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Royal Government of Cambodia signed on December 26, 2013 in Hanoi, Long An Province only has one Binh Hiep border gate, which is also the Pray Vor border gate of Svay Rieng Province, which is qualified to carry out transit goods procedures. In the past, many Vietnamese and Cambodian enterprises have come to Long An International Port to learn about the operation of goods for transit and transshipment from Cambodia through Long An International Port continuing the international voyage to Europe, America, or vice versa. “This has opened up many opportunities for Long An International Port to be confident in its capacity to receive this volume of goods right now. With a favorable geographical location, modern infrastructure, the most advanced equipment in the world, and a team of professional staff, Long An International Port has been and is meeting the needs of enterprises for the transit and transshipment of goods from Cambodia to Vietnam and vice versa, through the advantage of connecting both by road and waterway transportation,” said Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Vy, Deputy General Director, Long An International Port Operation & Management JSC.
The representative of the head of the delegation of Svay Rieng Province congratulated Long An for its socio-economic development in 2023, highlighting the strategic position and operational capability of Long An International Port. With the increasing trade between the two countries and the establishment of Long An International Port, the addition to the list of border gates is an urgent need. This will create a multimodal international transport route from Cambodia through Vietnam to the continents via the border gates of Svay Rieng Province and Long An Province. As a result, this will create favorable conditions for businesses and increase the direct competitive advantages for the two provinces of Svay Rieng and Long An on the supply chain map of the Southeast Asia region.

Mr. Peng Posa, Governor of Svay Rieng Province shared, “I believe that Long An International Port will be an important bridge, expanding trade and exchange of goods between the two countries, bringing benefits to the people and businesses in terms of transportation, especially by waterway, and creating a driving force for economic development. At the same time, the two sides will send a delegation of experts in transportation to conduct an assessment and make appropriate recommendations to the relevant ministries and branches in accordance with the law. We would like to thank the leaders of Long An Province and Long An International Port for their warm welcome to our delegation.” During the visit and working session at Long An International Port, the delegation had a meeting and exchange with the leaders of the ministries, agencies, and branches of Long An Province together with representatives of the leaders of Dongtam Group and Long An International Port. In addition, the delegation visited the facilities of Long An International Port, such as its berths, warehouse system, industrial park, service area, urban area, and the tallest flagpole in Indochina.
On the occasion of the traditional Vietnamese New Year, the Head of the delegation from Svay Rieng Province wished the Party Committee, the government, and the people of Long An Province a happy Lunar New Year 2024. He also wished for continued unity of the two provinces of Long An and Svay Rieng, as well as continued peace, friendship, and cooperation for mutual development. He also wished the two countries, Vietnam and Cambodia, to develop its friendship leading to the 57th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations (24/06/1967 – 24/06/2024).
